Portland Love: Yoga Studios
January 17th, 2014 by BESWOON
Planning your wedding can be extremely stressful. The pressure to look your best on your big day can mean even more pressure.
Yoga helps relieve stress and tone up your body so you will look and feel your best when you walk down the aisle. Portland is a mecca for great yoga. No matter what your style is, there is a studio that will fit your needs. Whether you need a hardcore sweaty workout, a deep spiritual asana practice or something more approachable for the yoga newbie Portland has a neighborhood studio for you.
Here are a few of our favorites:
Although this is the neighborhood studio for Portland’s East End, people come from all over Southern Maine to experience one of the deepest and most satisfying practices in the city. Lila doesn’t identify with any single yoga tradition which allows their students to grow an intense and nourishing personal yoga practice that feels right for their individual body.
For the yoga newbie or the busy working couple, Practice is a downtown yoga studio that offers introductory classes that are designed to fit into the fast paced life of a millennial on-the-go. They offer 7am yoga and meditation classes that will get you mentally and physically prepared for your work day without getting sweaty. Practice offers open studio time in the afternoons for those who need to clear their head between meetings or before going home to start wedding planning.
3. Greener Postures
For a more intense workout, Greener Postures offers Power Vinyasa classes in a heated room. During the winter students leave the studio feeling like they went on a mini tropical vacation. The class will whip you into the best shape through a powerful and fast-paced yoga practice. They have wonderful facilities including multiple shower rooms and all the accessories you’ll need. With a full schedule of classes Greener Postures makes finding a class that fits your schedule incredibly easy.
4. Bhakti in Motion
Bhakti in Motion is located in the West End and offers a variety of yoga practices. As a strong community based yoga studio they thrive at making you feel at home. They create a space that is comfortable and peaceful. Although they have vinyasa classes, their Hatha yoga classes are outstanding. The slower tradition focuses on deep breathing and is amazing for calming your body and bringing peace and clarity to your life. Sounds like something every couple needs while planning a wedding!
